2021.09.23 11:52 user5t6 2 lands and that's it.
Has anyone else noticed that if they start with 2 lands in their opening hand they often won't draw anymore? I know mana screw is a thing, but this started happening recently (since the last major 3+ hour update). It doesn't happen all the time but it's very strange, I've never noticed it before. Now I'll go turn 5-6 and not draw another land. I've even started noticing it in my opponents' draws. They get 2 lands and that's it.
It might be nothing, but it's made me paranoid. Now I've put 24 lands in every deck (I used to try and get away with 23 depending on the deck) and I've even started making sure every land is a different version. Anyone else?

On a MacBook Pro even if in same room. It seems to be OK on iPhones & iPads. All satellites are ethernet into a switch. I am using Orbi app to see what satellite devices are connected to. Had same issue with RBK40 setup & hoped once I switched to newer RBK854 it would be better.

2021.09.23 11:52 Noob-in-hell Checker Board is NOT the best portal pattern for slime farms.
F1 Example - 10 - twist
From all the sliced portal slime farms I have seen, people seemed to settle on a checker board pattern, with the justification that it has faster rates as every second block has a lower height map while still removing the entities at only a margining slower rate from the small slimes not instant teleporting if not spawning directly on the portal block. I have not seen anyone do rigorous testing, only justification through logic. So I decided to test various patterns my self, and formulate the results.
Method of data collection:
A simple two by two slime chunk farm was constructed within a void perimeter in a naturally generated world. A 5 block perimeter of transparent blocks went around the chunks forming a 42x42 block area for the test farm. Since the entity count at a given moment is a natural number, four slime chucks was used to increase the precision of the reading (using 10-30 chucks would be more realist but it was tooo painful to swap between patterns), as well a low number was used to prevent the entity count plateauing at the mob cap.
Sliced portals were configured to match a given pattern. (For exact patterns see the visual aid beside the raw data in the google sheet) ‘carpet mod’ was used to automatically record the spawns and other information. For each pattern this test was run 7 times for 144000 game ticks per trial. For the number of entities present within the farm at a given moment. Using carpet mod’s script integration, a custom script was written to automatically log the hostile entity count every 100 game ticks for a total of a thousand times per pattern.
F2: Small snippet of raw data
F3: Summary of Data
F4: Portion portal blocks vs mean rates of the different patterns
From the above graph it is clear to see that the rates of a farm are directly proportional to the portion of blocks that have a portal block. The line of best fit follows closely the expected trend based on the understanding of the spawning algorithm. Seems to follow R = A*(n*1/3+(1-n)*1/2) where A is a constant and n is the portion portal blocks and R is the rate. Which simplifies to R = A/2-n*A/6. For this case A is roughly 6e4. This confirmed the assumption needed that the rates increase as the portion of portal blocks decreases while the mob cap is not reached.
F5: Main Graph: Rates vs Entity count
The final results of the rates vs the number of entity count, as seen in figure 5, show that the more optimal patterns are closer to the top left. Given that the rates are almost perfectly linearly dependent on the percent of blocks without a portal block, The most optimal pattern is striking a balance between the rates and the entity count, which several seem to do it better than the conventional checker board pattern. From the data it can be seen that the increase in entity count from the worst patterns tested is not overly significant for most patterns but once the percentage drops the entity count starts to rise rapidly. By we look at the mean amount of entities a the worst entity farm had was pattern 2 '3 Gap ' was only 7.7 for 4 slime chucks. With this you can have up to 36 chunks before the mob cap is reached on average. Or taking it to the extreme the highest recorded value of entity count was 20 for pattern 6 ' 3 Gap Diagonal Rotated ', mean 14 chucks at max. These patterns are at the point of where most large scale slice portal farms would start to dip in rates from mob cap. Of these for small scale of only a few chunks you could get away with the higher entity count for the extra rates.
Conclusion / TLDR: From the results of the testing there are many patterns that have higher rates than the conventional checker board pattern. Since most players who are going through the effort to use slice portals are probably going to go all out and use many chunks. As such I would recommend the knight move pattern (8 or 9 in Sheet). Or for larger scale or a more less of increase in entity count while still having comparable rates than pattern 10 'twist'.
For raw data, graphs and the patterns tested see, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r7b7TWMrX-RiKpTpJMrFSgjIPpHsI51K28mO57l4-xY/edit#gid=1234020103
If you have an idea for a better pattern let me know and I will get around to testing it in the same environment for consistent results.

2021.09.23 11:52 WGDSheep Environmental Health Coordinator
I just landed a job as EHC in a city I have always wanted to work for! Great pay, benefits and experience since I would be working directly with the Mayors office and CC Task Force drafting policy.
Buttttttttt, there is a significant portion of the job related to improving/monitoring the pest control response systems.
I really want to be focusing on the Air, Water and Climate Change aspects of the job. I feel like the rodent side of things will detract from that work.
Has anyone had similar experiences? Is rodent control interesting? Any advice?

2021.09.23 11:52 Mr_Gusty Help a newbie with low point games
Hey there guys,
A few friend and myself have started collecting 40k after being out of the hobby for years (I have a couple of 5th ed fantasy armies) and we play 500-1000 point games once a week or so.
Everyone else has more 40k experience than me as they played older versions when I was playing fantasy but I keep getting completely tabled. I play alpha legion and they play necrons, ad mech, eldar and tau (haven’t actually got a game against this army yet). I know there’s a power discrepancy between the 8th and 9th codexs but even the eldar seem to bring so many more models and once I loose one unit I’m done at these small point games.
I know chaos is a bit of an elite army but I seem to just get overrun or out gunned every game. Do you guys have any tips for making chaos work to it’s potential if small games? Or what units I should try to get battle ready next?
For info my painted collection so far is: 1 Sorcerer 1 Master of possession 1 master of executions 10 CSM (and an extra champion to run two 5 man squads) 2 obliterators 5 havocs
My pile of shame includes the rest of the start collecting box, 3 bikers a chaos lord and 17 cultists I got second hand and need a lot of work.
We don’t enforce WYSIWYG so advice on load outs is also appreciated.
