2022.01.28 12:34 G1NGERNAUT Muzzle Devices for 8.3" Barrel (7.62x39)?
What are people's experiences with muzzle devices for a non-suppressed 8.3" Galil in 7.62x39? I did some searching and couldn't seem to find any trends or consensus opinions that didn't involve putting a suppressor on it. I'm hoping to tame the fireball while reducing some muzzle rise (and preferably not concussing myself every time I pull the trigger with such a short barrel...).
I've been looking at the EFAB from Precision Armament (which I just got for my X95), and I also noted the Surfire Warcomp. I was curious if anyone here had any experience with these or other options and might be able to point me in a good direction.

2022.01.28 12:34 TruthToPower77 "Leveling mechanisms" - a set of unique traditions that are meant to make the members of a specific community more "equal." I rarely see them mentioned, and I think they hide a huge potential.
I was recently reading a bit about real-life caste systems and I accidentally encountered the term leveling mechanisms. As far as I can tell, these "mechanisms" don't have too much research behind them and their definition is not set in stone, but I think it's a cool concept for worldbuilders interested in cultures. It's not one of those "how dare you not add them to your world," but rather: "if you like to go deep, here's a cool way to add a unique taste to one of your nations."
2. What's this about
The basic definition from wiki states:
In cultural anthropology, a leveling mechanism is a practice that acts to ensure social equality, usually by shaming or humbling members of a group that attempt to put themselves above other members. (my own highlight)
So, some sources state that leveling mechanisms include actions like sharing goods among members of a community to make sure that nobody has more than they need. Such actions, I think, are generally meant to bring everyone to the same level, protect everyone from suffering and such actions are very common among anarchistic or religious groups, or even small hunting-foraging tribes. (In a way, you could even say that law systems that forbid polygamy are a way to apply a leveling mechanism for "the greater good.")
However, I want to focus on either direct or subtle acts and rituals that are meant to pull people down, damage those who get dangerously high.
I think the famous Japanese proverb, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down, is a good summary of the concept. But let's bring some examples.
3.1 "Shaming the meat" - a not-so-subtle tradition
Here is the most unique example, a ritual practiced by the people of !Kung. Here goes the description from Wikipedia:
"(...) When Lee gave the !Kung an ox as a Christmas gift, the !Kung responded by insulting the gift, calling it a "bag of bones" and joking that they would have to eat the horns because there was no meat on it. Lee later asked a man named Tomazo why his gift was insulted in this way. He responded that it was because the gift was arrogant. Lee asked what he meant by this and was told:
Yes, when a young man kills much meat he comes to think of himself as a chief or a big man, and he thinks of the rest of us as his servants or inferiors. We can’t accept this. We refuse one who boasts, for someday his pride will make him kill somebody. So we always speak of his meat as worthless. This way we cool his heart and make him gentle."
I find this example fascinating, because when it's such a well-known part of your culture, it's quite obvious that when practiced, it's almost like a game. A ritual that's meant to remind you where's your place, but if you know it's just a facade - will you take it to your heart?
A fictional example: How about a queen that once a year, during a traditionally practiced holiday, is meant to bow to her nobles and dress in a cilice shirt, calling herself a "servant and defender" of her realm while everyone can yell at her and criticize her mistakes, even though she's an absolute ruler? What if she decides to drop such a ritual in the middle of a political conflict?
3.2 The Highland-Maya Cargo System - a social system
That's a sad one. Basically, the richer members of the Highland-Maya peoples (or, to be specific - male members that are active in the civic aspects of life) have the tradition of "returning to the community" a part of the wealth and their time. For example, the elders of a village can give a "cargo" to a young man and expect him to help the elderly in their daily tasks. It provides valuable services without bothering with taxes and official documentation.
This Sounds good, but sometimes increases the stigma against the poor or the struggling ones (who can't always take part in handling the cargo) and increases the prestige of those who can, for example, throw a great feast during a holiday - and the expectations in general "scale" with your status. You can remember how similar traditions were working in medieval Europe - sure, the feast is in the honor of others, but obviously it says the most about the one who stands behind it.
Oh, and why only males? Because when the tradition was getting its shape, women couldn't govern. On this wiki articleyou can read more about the history of this tradition.
A fictional... no need. You can just borrow it entirely.
3.3 The Law of Jante - you are not special - a set of beliefs
Jante is a fictional town, where a Dano-Norwegian author Aksel Sandemose set his satirical novel A Fugitive Crosses His Tracks. Satirical, yes, but of course it requires reality to satirize it. The eleven rules of Jante are:
a code of conduct known in Nordic countries that portrays not conforming, doing things out of the ordinary, or being overtly personally ambitious as unworthy and inappropriate.
...and they are often described as a quite real part of the Nordic cultures. Sometimes criticized (some papers even linked the Law to suicide rates, though I didn't dig into it) or belittled, though the Japanese saying about hammer and nails or even the English phrases about tall poppies or the crab mentality show that such "laws" are quite more common than one could expect. I'd argue you can also find links between such attitudes and Christianity in general, or even in communism.
A fictional example: Using a modified version the Law of Jante is interesting, because it directly explains the "culture's" intention. While I wouldn't advise to do it since "show, don't tell" is always more fun and the Law of Jante is as far from subtle as it can be, it may be fun to create an in-universe fairy tale that explains why you should never pursue your ambitions. Never.
3.4 The Pranger of Poznań - the unaware leveling of feudal systems
I'm from Poznań, Poland, and our Pranger is a very well-known spot. But it has quite a silly history behind it.
If you don't what what a pranger is, you can see the description here. Basically, it was a place where small-scale punishments were made, like the removal of ears or fingers.
The Pranger of Poznań was financed by fines extracted from workers and merchants who "wore too-elaborate outfits". Basically, for some time wives of local merchants were so rich that they often dressed as good (or better) than noble women. So the knighthood decided to make a rule: if you dress "too good," you need to pay.
It's an example of trying to make sure sure that people won't become more important that their birthright should allow them to be. Of course, the people who make such rules would frame it differently - they just want to protect the right order of things! They don't have to (shouldn't?) be aware of their own malice.
By the way, introducing such law didn't help. That's why Poznań built the pranger after all.
Another not-fictional example: Early democracies, which didn't allow slaves or women to vote.

2022.01.28 12:34 LibertyDesign PayPal Issues on Disc Golf Scene
I am running a Veterans for Vets tournament at the end of next month and PayPal has put limitations on my account until I can show proof of fulfillment etc.
I am not going to be ordering the players packs for a couple more weeks so I can't show any receipts, but right now, no one can sign up for the tournament til it can get sorted. Has anyone else ran into this and got any solutions?
I have thought about setting up a business account to try and remedy this problem and avoid it in the future, but I am worried about any tax implications that will have since I am only using it to run a couple tournaments each year. This Veterans for Vets tournament is entirely for charity so there will be no profits, but that may not be the case for others in the future.

2022.01.28 12:34 cptnmarvels Painful, swollen inner labia?
After my latest period (ended last week) I started to feel a little lump near my clitoris which has just gotten bigger and wider? It doesn’t have any other colour or odour to it, it’s just very painful, I can hardly touch it.
I have been putting vagisil (medicated cream) on it — which hurts but it hasn’t cleared up yet.
I’m terrified to go to the doctor, I have ptsd from recently going in to the hospital as well as a lot of anxiety anyway.
any help would be appreciated, at least before I bite the bullet and go see my doctor.
