2022.01.28 13:30 MusiTheMarshmallow Syed/Non-Syed Marriage
When my parents first told me about the fact that I'm Syed and that every ancestor of mine was as well, I became worried about it. My parents told me that the blood would have to stay within the family basically, and that I can only marry a Syed. But I disagree with this concept. The prophet was a holy man but he wasn't godly. My parents said "The reason we marry Syeds is because one time one of Prophet's Muhammad's (something I don't remember) made fun of him for having no descendants and so now Syeds are supposed to marry each other in order to prove him wrong and give Prophet Muhammad the largest family." I'm happy that I have a strong relationship with him but I don't want to change who I spend the rest of my life with on something that is probably only cultural. My parents are ok with me marrying a Christian or Jew but not a Non Syed? So my question is, is this really mandatory religiously, or is it just a cultural thing. Is it Mukruh or Haram, what is the ruling for marrying a Non Syed? On top of that how do you find out if you're Syed other than asking your parents?

2022.01.28 13:30 killlllswitch Duck dog training @ 6 months
I have the opportunity to acquire a yellow lab that a family can’t take care of anymore if I can convince the old lady, this dog is 6 months old and would be the first lab I’ve trained to be a gun dog and also the first duck dog training I’ve ever experienced/done. I have been pretty heavily involved in upland pointer training which I’m sure some transfers over, but how difficult will it be to start a dog at 6 months that has never had any gun dog work yet?

2022.01.28 13:30 Lex1713 We should get rid of competition sports for kids under 10
Title might be misleading so let me clarify: I'm not saying the competitive aspect should be removed from kids' sports, I think we should do away with "competition teams" (not sure what the official term is here). What I'm trying to describe is not local kids' leagues where anyone can join, or school teams.
Awhile back I stumbled across an old Dance Moms episode and watching as an adult truly changed my perspective on this, I was horrified. One mom readily admitted that they always put dance over school and that homework only gets completed once dance is done for the day. They also said that the girls go to dance straight after school and don't get to leave until 9:30 pm. Every day. Then they spend their whole weekend traveling to competitions.
This cannot be healthy for elementary age kids mentally. Their entire life shouldn't revolve around a sport. I can clearly remember another DM episode where one of the girls( 8 years old at the time I believe) announced to the audience "If I couldn't do dance anymore, I'd probably k*ll myself." How is that a healthy mindset for a child? Don't get me wrong, physical activities are great for kids and I totally encourage parents to get their kids involved. But that should mean a couple hours of practice a week and a game or two on the weekends, not 5+ hours every week day along with the majority of the weekend. It's also beneficial for them to try a variety of sports and activities not spend all their time focused on "being number one."
I think the worst part is that the majority of the time, it's the parents pushing the kids to do these things for their own personal satisfaction than the kids actually wanting to do it. If your kid likes soccer, great. Join a local league. But you can't convince me that an eight year old truly wants to spend all their free time dedicated to one thing. And even if they do, there's no way it's good for them mentally. It can lead to their self-esteem being dependent on winning, or fears that their parents won't love them anymore if they don't perform as expected.
Final point here is that I have heard many people who did super intense competitive sports as kids express regret about all their missed childhood experiences(sleepovers, birthday parties, just running around and being a kid) because all their free time was taken up by their sport and their parents didn't let them stop when they wanted to.

2022.01.28 13:30 syphilis_sandwich Jay and his home theater
Jay has humblebragged a few times about his big TV and Dolby Atmos sound system. In the Dune episode, he talks about his friend’s 40-inch TV with total contempt.
My question to this sub: do you really believe that gear makes a difference to your enjoyment or is Jay just being a snob?

2022.01.28 13:30 WildWI2518 Loan Officer Assistant Job Duties
I have been a licensed LOA for little over 18 months for one LO. Last year we closed 130 loans. I am paid hourly and get a $100 file bonus for each loan closed. My duties consist of generating leads, taking loan apps, pre-approving the borrower, chasing documents for processing/ underwriting, reviewing conditions with borrower, locking the rate, reviewing the LE and CD, and sometimes going to closings. When at the closing table, the borrowers still mistake me for the being the LO as they have never had communication from the LO besides their email coming across on the LE and CD's. I communicate with the agents throughout the process in regards to the appraisal along with other issues that may arise with a file.
Additionally, on weekends or after business hours I take client and agent phone calls to pre-approve buyers, as I answer the phone and respond to emails where it seems my LO doesn't. I understand I was brought on to alleviate the LO so they didn't have to get tied down to files and take time to put out fires, but on the other hand it's not like they have been out building business or doing anything where they couldn't assist with their files. I am in the office 40+ hours a week, where the LO is maybe in the office 20 hours a week.
Is this normal for an LOA to basically be doing the LO's job without receiving the commission check when the deal closes? Or should I be pursuing another LOA opportunity. I haven't been in the business long enough to make the jump to LO yet on straight commission.
